Peripheral neuropathy
What is peripheral neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy occurs as a result of damage to nerves situated outside of the brain and spinal cord (peripheral nerves). Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by traumatic injuries, infections, metabolic problems, inherited causes and exposure to toxins. The most common cause of peripheral neuropathy is diabetes.
Sensory nerves -Symptoms of peripheral neuropathy
Symptoms caused by the damage to the peripheral nerves often include weakness, numbness and pain, mostly in the hands and feet. It can also affect other areas and bodily functions, such as digestion, urination and circulation. People with peripheral neuropathy describe the pain as stabbing, burning or tingling.

How does low-level laser therapy treats the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy?
Low-level laser therapy and cold treatment helps reduce both acute and chronic pain. It is beneficial in relieving all levels of pain, including the severe pain incurred by physical injury and the inflammation of irritated nerves, which can lead to peripheral neuropathy. Laser therapy has an anti-inflammatory effect that repairs tissue and improves mobility. However, laser therapy treatment cannot reverse physical damage to bone, tendon, nerve, and other related structures. Its major benefit is anti inflammatory and healing effects. Common known conditions include:
- Nerve-pain
- Diabetic neuropathy
- Idiopathic neuropathy (unknown reason)
- Different types of neuropathy/neuritis
Sciatica treatment
Low-level laser therapy or cold laser treats sciatic pain, with cumulative treatments, by reducing the irritation to nerves, caused by peripheral nerve damage. Acupuncture may also be used as well as trigger point injections to help release any impingements to nerve tissue.
These treatments can be used to manage peripheral nerve damage experienced in debilitating backache where a patient cannot stand for any period due to their condition and if they choose not to have surgery because it would limit mobility too much.
Other types of treatments include bed-rest (which some doctors advise) and medications such as hydrocodone and other strictly monitored prescription-strength drugs.
Fibromyalgia
In medicine, the typical failure of traditional fibromyalgia treatment worldwide and its response to low-level laser therapy, commonly known as a cold laser, is well known. Laser therapy significantly reduces pain and increases quality of life by stimulating the nervous system by increasing circulation to affected nerves and nerve tissue (acupuncture), which benefits nerve function, and relaxing tense muscles (laser massage). Common symptoms include:
Fibromyalgia overview
Fibromyalgia is a common and chronic syndrome that causes bodily pain and mental distress. Symptoms of fibromyalgia can often be confused with those of arthritis, or joint inflammation. However, unlike arthritis, it has also has been found to cause widespread musculoskeletal discomfort coupled with fatigue, sleeplessness, memory and mood difficulties.
The brain's sensory pain processes are believed to be altered in people who have fibromyalgia, leading to increased and chronic pain
Women are more prone to fibromyalgia than males.
Many people with fibromyalgia also suffer from tension headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and sadness. Even though there is no cure for fibromyalgia, various medications can help control the symptoms. However, exercise, relaxation and stress-reduction measures may also prove beneficial.

How does fibromyalgia present?
The most common symptom linked with fibromyalgia is a dull, constant ache that continues for three months or more. The discomfort generally starts on both sides of the body and above and below the waist.
People who have fibromyalgia are frequently tired upon waking, even though they believe they slept for long periods. Pain often prevents sleep, and many people with fibromyalgia have other sleep issues.
A symptom of fibromyalgia known as "fibro fog" limits a person's capacity to focus and concentrate on mental activities.
Doctors do not know what causes fibromyalgia, but they think it is probably a combination of things.
These may include genetics, past infections, physical or emotional trauma, or something else.
